I created this painting from a photograph I took of the sitting room at the Fox Theater in 1997. The first job I ever held was as an usher at the Fox when it reopened in 1994. I took a photography class a few years later and took many photos of the inside of the Fox. This was one of my favorite photos. The Bakersfield Californian asked me to create a painting for their "Eye Gallery" segment coming up in August. The 19 artists chosen will be creating paitings that have something to do with Bakersfield. Becuse the Fox is such a landmark here, I thought this would be perfect. It is a quieter element of the Fox that I am happy to now share with the public.This painting will be exhibited at the Bakersfield Museum of Art on Sept. 11th. |
