In August I will begin my 6th year of teaching at Bakersfield High School. I graduated from BHS in 1997 at it is amazing to teach in the very room my passion for ceramics began. I moved home in 2002 after graduating from San Francisco State University with a BA in Art.  I had no idea of the opportunities that would lie before me. I am so thankful  to have a job teaching what I love (ceramics) and the ability to have a career as a professional artist as well. This latest  adventure of opening a gallery in the newly established Arts District is more than I could have ever imagined.

Another project I am working on  is my Masters Degree in Education. I am writing my thesis on art education and how volunteering and internships can better prepare a student for a career in the arts. I am interesting in creating a community that fosters artistic pursuits and equips students with the knowledge and skills to feel comfortable moving towards artistic careers. I will be creating a handbook that will guide students to the art opportunities available to them in Bakersfield. This should be completed in spring of 2009 and will be a valuable resource to my students and any young person interested in pursuing a career in art.
